Jennifer Schmidt MA, LPCC, LPC, NCC

Thank you for connecting here for guidance and information on therapy services and other wellness options. I am a licensed professional counselor experienced in working with women, men and persons of all ages, couples, families and older teens - with anxiety, depression, relationship, personality, trauma, grief and addition struggles. I believe in a client-centered, collaborative and compassionate approach to therapy.

I work with clients to understand issues, build awareness, change patterns, increase perspectives on conflicts and find effective coping strategies - to manage problems affecting clients’ lives in home, work, personal and school environments. Please see the ‘About’ page above for more information on modalities of therapy utilized in my practice.

For over eleven years, I have provided counseling services to clients in Ohio, Colorado, Vermont and Massachusetts. My experience includes working in group practice, agency, college and hospital settings. I strive to stay knowledgeable and current on evidence-based therapies, interventions and research into mental health topics so that I can offer best practices to my clients.

Some questions to ask yourself about possibly needing therapy:

  • Have you been feeling overly anxious lately? Anxious about many things and/or an anxiety “that just won’t go away”?  Possibly some panic symptoms also?

  • Experiencing depressive symptoms that feel outside of your ‘norm’? Having trouble ‘getting out of the funk’?

  • Are you going through life changes or transitions negatively impacting your normal routines & functioning?

  • Have you experienced a traumatic event or series of significant ‘small trauma’ events in your life that you haven’t healed from? Are there difficult attachments in your past/present that you want to explore?

  • Is it difficult to connect with others or even to get connected with yourself and your own feelings, needs? Do you have difficulty understanding or accepting your own needs and expressing to others?

  • Are you having ‘more difficult than usual’ relationship struggles in your life? Are your relationships not going the way you feel they should? Do you want to work on how you’re present within those relationships? Advocate more for your needs? Are your anxiety and/or depressive feelings holding you back in having fulfilling connections?

How can therapy help?

  • Therapy will help to explore and deconstruct problematic thoughts, challenging emotions/emotional patterns and stuck behaviors that are obstacles to life improvement.

  • Therapy can help you identify areas for developing new coping tools, explore what coping routines best fit your lifestyle/personality and get help with successfully and consistently implementing those skills.

  • Therapy will help you set goals, determine how to meet those goals, identify strengths, manage barriers to improvement and implement accountability for carrying out goals.

  • Therapy will give you a space for safely and confidentially exploring and processing difficult emotions, life experiences and past traumas.

  • Therapy will help you find ways to improve expressing your feelings /needs and to feel more heard.

  • Therapy will offer you compassionate, nonjudgmental space - and will teach you to offer yourself more compassion and a non-judging stance.

  • Therapy will help you build tools for mindfulness, awareness, assertiveness, calming practices, shifting negative thought patterns, building more positive inner dialogue & attitudes and improve your overall life satisfaction.

  • Therapy will help you to understand with more clarity your attachment patterns, struggles and develop ways to shift toward attachment connections that build more satisfying relationships.

How Do I Start the Therapy Process?

Schedule a 15-20 minute virtual consult.

We would start by meeting briefly for a 15-20 minute free zoom session to talk over what you are hoping to work on in therapy, answer questions about my therapy modalities and discuss details such as scheduling, insurance and telehealth connection.  Please click below to schedule a time.
